I can't access EBSCO or other databases from home or off-campus. What should I do?

Answer

If you’re logged into Blackboard or FCC email, you should automatically be logged into library databases off campus.

Can’t login to Blackboard, FCC email, or the databases?

Try troubleshooting or resetting your network password.

Can login to Blackboard, but databases won’t open off campus?

  1. Make sure you have the right link(s).

    1. Always start from the Research Databases page. If not, the database won't recognize you.

    1. If you left a database open in a browser window for too long, the database may have timed out. Go back to the Research Databases page to login again.

    1. If the link for a specific article or resource in a database is not working (broken link), you may have to search for it again.

      1. More about linking to database articles.

    1. If the broken link is in a Blackboard course, contact your instructor and let them know.

  1. Check your browser.

    1. Make sure your browser is up to date.

    1. Try to login in a different browser or use a private or incognito tab in the browser you are using.

    1. If using a different browser or private/incognito tab works, you need to clear the cache on your original browser before you use the databases again.

    1. If clearing the cache doesn’t work, check your browser’s security settings.

Seeing an “Unexpected System Error” when signing into MyEBSCO through one of the EBSCO databases (e.g. Academic Search Premier; PsycARTICLES, etc.)?

  1. Try this workaround:
    1. Head over to FCC Library OneSearch
    2. Click the link at the top of the page "Welcome, Guest. Sign in to your institution for full access to your library’s resources."
    3. Leave the window for FCC Library OneSearch Open, and in a separate tab navigate to the EBSCO database of your choosing (e.g. Academic Search Premier, MEDLINE, APA PsycArticles, Etc.)

  1. Check your browser's default privacy settings.

Your browser may be blocking cookies EBSCO needs to log you in. This is common with Firefox and Chrome.

Firefox fix:

  1. Go to the EBSCO page you were using.
  2. Click the shield icon left of the web address.
  3. Turn “Enhanced Tracking Protection” OFF for this site.
  4. Reload the page and try again.

This only affects EBSCO and is safe to allow.

Chrome fix:

  1. While on the EBSCO page, click the lock icon left of the web address.
  2. Click Site settings.
  3. Set Cookies to Allow.
  4. Reload and try again.
