How do I update Database Permalinks to the new Ezproxy URL?

The Library is moving to a new Ezproxy authentication server which means any database permalinks will need to be updated. How do I do that?

Understanding the Ezproxy

EzProxy is the way that the Library allows access to the Library Databases off-campus. To make the system work an “FCC Ezproxy URL” is placed in front of a Database URL/Permalink:

If your Database Permalinks URLs begin with or include the words ezproxy.frederick.edu, your links are still being directed through the old EZproxy and will no longer function:

How to Update a Permalink

Option 1:

This option works for any database. Please note if you have JOVE or CQ Researcher permalinks they can only be updated off-campus

  • Conduct a search to find the resource again.

  • Copy and paste the new Database URL/Permalink into your Blackboard Course or other course material.

Option 2:

This option will only work for the following databases:

  • EBSCO
  • Films on Demand
  • JSTOR
  • OVID
  • ProQuest

To update a link, you can replace the old EzProxy URL prefix with the new one to regain access.

Below is a step by step guide on how to update the EZproxy URL Prefix. We are using an EBSCO link as our example, but the same concept will work for the all of the databases listed above. 

  • Go to your Blackboard Course to edit your link

  • You will want to only erase the first part of the Permalink URL. If your link is an old link it will start with::
    • https://ezproxy.frederick.edu/login?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=aph&AN=157940693&site=ehost-live

  • Replace the bolded part of the link above with the new Ezproxy URL listed below:

    • https://frederick.idm.oclc.org/login?url=

  • Your new link with the updated URL (bolded) should now look like:
    • https://frederick.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=aph&AN=157940693&site=ehost-live

  • Click Submit to save the new link

After updating a link we recommend clicking on it to make sure everything is working correctly.
