How do I link to something I found in a database or fix a database link I put into Blackboard?

Answer

How Database Authentication Works

The authentication process that enables access to FCC library databases is moderated through a proxy server.

For the process to work, you must access library databases through the links on the Library's A - Z Databases page (rather than through a link found by searching for the database's name in Google).

You can also link directly to a specific item in a database (such as an article) by using that item's permalink.

How to Get the Correct Database URL from the A - Z Databases Page

  1. Go to the A - Z Databases page
  2. Find the name of the database you want, and right-click on the database name
  3. Click "Copy link address" in the dialog box
  4. Paste the copied link where you want it to go in Bb and save your changes!

How to Get a Database Item's Permalink

  1. Go to the A - Z Databases page
  2. Find the name of the database you want, then double-click the database name to access it (you will have to login if you're off-campus)
  3. Once in, search for the specific database item you want (Examples: an article or video)
  4. Click on the title of the item
  5. In the options menu (usually on the right-side of the page or directly above or below the item) you will see a list of options like "Save," "Share", "Cite", "Permalink" etc.
  6. Click on one of these options which will display the items Record URL or Permalink. Copy that link and paste it where you want to in Blackboard. Save your changes!

If you've followed these steps and you are still having problems with a database link, please submit a request for assistance and a Librarian will get back to you ASAP.
