How do I cite Wikipedia using the APA format?

Answer

To cite articles in Wikipedia using the APA format, use the following format in your references page:

Title of article. (Year, Month Day). In Wikipedia. URL of archived version of page.

For example:

Wukang Mansion. (2020, November 20). In Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wukang_Mansion&oldid=991476104

In-text citation example:

("Wukang Mansion," 2020)

Note:

1) Ask your professor if Wikipedia is an appropriate source for your paper. Gale Virtual Reference Library, an FCC resource, is a recommended alternative if you need background information on a topic.

2) Wikipedia articles change frequently so it is important for your reader to know which version of the page you used in your work. This is why APA recommends the use of the URL of the archived page rather than the current page. To get the archived URL, click  the "View History" link at the top of the Wikipedia page and then click on the date of the version you used. Use the URL of the page that opens.
